ARTIST STATEMENT
How you feel about yourself determines who you are and what you do. To be brave enough to show vulnerability and real strength is to love yourself. When I practice portraiture I ask my subjects questions that challenge them to tell the truth in a beautiful way. I then give them a space that is safe to move freely and to express themselves without judgement. What I want is for them to feel beautiful in a way they may not have felt before. The journey to this can be very difficult and emotional. The portrait becomes a piece of evidence of the session that is in itself the work. Everyone has inside of them a princess, a king, a monster, an idiot and a hero. When we have fun pretending to be these characters we access part of ourselves that has been there all along. Dance and movement free up the body to express itself in ways that words cannot. Truth comes through movement and release of expression. Through dance I access the soul and through acting I provoke the mind.
"We lie, we lie to others and we lie to ourselves.
Revealing our secrets can release our strength and unveil our beauty."
